The Library of the Carnegie Museums of Natural History is a collection of approximately 132,000 volumes. The collection is particularly strong in scientific periodicals and has long runs of European journals dating to the nineteenth century. Included in the 32,000 titles in the Library are 5,400 periodical titles, of which 1,500 are currently received. Many periodicals are received through the Museum's reciprocal exchange program which distributed the Annals of the Carnegie Museum of Natural History and the Bulletin of the Carnegie Museum of Natural History to other museums and libraries. The Library's strengths reflect the scientific sections of the Museum, which are Anthropology, Amphibians and Reptiles, Birds, Botany, Invertebrate Paleontology, Invertebrate Zoology, Mammals, Minerals and Vertebrate Paleontology. While the Library's primary users are the research and public programs staff of the Museum and their professional colleagues worldwide, the Library collection is available for on-site use by the public. Photocopies may also be requested through interlibrary loan. The Library maintains various institutional records and also serves as the starting point for research into the archival collections held by the scientific sections.
