Carnegie Museums of Art and Natural History to Begin Summer Schedule
Open Mondays Starting July 6, 2009
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania…From July 6 through August 31, 2009, Carnegie Museums of Art and Natural History will be open to the public on Mondays, 10:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., in addition to regular admission hours. All the galleries will be accessible; the museums’ casual restaurant, Fossil Fuels, will be open until 4:00 p.m.; and the museum stores will be open until 5:00 p.m. The Carnegie Café will remain closed.
This year, the museums are boasting a “Summer of Photography.” In addition to presenting photographs in permanent collection galleries, the museums will host three temporary photography exhibitions: Doublexposure (Carnegie Museum of Natural History, June 16–September 13, 2009), featuring historic and modern-day images that show the effects of climate change on glaciers; Digital to Daguerreotype: Photographs of People (Carnegie Museum of Art, June 20, 2009–January 31, 2010), the inaugural show of Linda Benedict-Jones, curator of the new department of photography; and Documenting Our Past: The Teenie Harris Archive Project, Part Three (Carnegie Museum of Art, July 18–November 1, 2009), presenting works by Harris selected by his son as well as prize-winning snapshots by children living in Pittsburgh neighborhoods today.
Visitors should note that the museums will be closed on Independence Day (July 4) and Labor Day (September 7).
