Spread the Word

If we’re going to document every breeding bird species in the state of Pennsylvania, we need lots of eyes and ears!

The 2nd PBBA has an ambitious goal that requires the efforts of thousands of individual birders visiting a wide variety of habitats throughout the state. Not only can you help with the actual atlassing, you can also help us to promote the project and recruit more volunteers. This word-of-mouth advertising is a powerful way to help build the ranks of our volunteers and make even more people aware of project.

Here are some simple ways to spread the good word!

  • Share your experience!
Tell your friends, neighbors, co-workers, etc. about your atlassing experiences. Offer to take someone along on an atlassing outing. Talk to your local scout troops, garden clubs, etc. about why you volunteer for the project and why they should too! Nothing is more powerful than firsthand enthusiasm.
  • Help us find potential volunteers and supporters.
We’ll bet that you know plenty of folks who are interested in birds and the outdoors. If you have friends or relatives that are interested in birds, refer them to this website, or let us know and we will send them an informational brochure. If you know of a group that would be interested in getting involved, contact us. We can arrange to have a presentation given by a Regional Coordinator or Project Coordinator for any group.
  • Use your local media outlets.
Every town has a newspaper. Write an article about your atlassing efforts for your local paper, club newsletter, even your church bulletin! Or, if you prefer, put your local newspaper in touch with your Regional Coordinator or the main 2nd PBBA office at Powdermill. Try anything that will help others understand how much fun and how rewarding atlassing can be! Please be sure to send copies of any articles to the 2nd PBBA Coordinators for their files.
