What Kind of Atlasser Am I:
Teachers and Students

The 2nd PBBA is an excellent opportunity to involve your students in a statewide conservation effort. Take your class outside several times during the month of May and have them help put Pennsylvania’s breeding birds on the map! With a few good field guides and pairs of binoculars, students can learn to identify the breeding birds on their school grounds, record their data, and contribute valuable information to the 2nd PBBA.

Participation in the 2nd PBBA will provide many topics for discussion, such as breeding habits and other behaviors of birds, habitat selection, and nest building. Have your students compare their observations with those of the 1st PBBA conducted from 1984—1989, now available electronically at 1st PBBA. Did you find any new birds in your region? Were there any species reported in the first atlas that you didn’t find? Can they speculate on why?

Materials to get you started are available from this website, or from the 2nd PBBA main office.
