Backyard Birdwatchers

Do you like to watch birds in your backyard? Do you keep your bird feeders going in the spring and summer? Have you put up a bird house in your yard? Do birds sometimes nest on or in your house? If you answered “Yes” to any of these questions then you probably have seen things that qualify as confirmed breeding bird records for the 2nd Pennsylvania Breeding Bird Atlas (2nd PBBA), and we’d like to ask for your help. Please take a few minutes and submit observation(s) of any birds you see in your yard that exhibit a confirmed breeding behavior, such as nest building in one of your birdhouses or feeding recently fledged young at your bird feeder.

To simplify things, we have made up a one-page (two-sided) form that will enable us to register you as a volunteer and enter your bird observations into the growing database for the 2nd Pennsylvania Breeding Bird Atlas (click on the picture of the form below). By doing this, you can count yourself among the thousands of Pennsylvania bird watchers who are literally putting their birds on the map. You will be acknowledged for your contributions in the final published book, and you will receive the very informative and interesting project newsletter 2-3 times a year. This is a project that can involve everyone in your family, regardless of age or bird watching experience. So, please show how much you enjoy birds by helping us to learn more about them so that we can conserve them and their habitats in Pennsylvania for many years to come.
