Cedar WaxwingBreeding Codes

Breeding Codes are simply codes that describe a level of breeding evidence. These codes are arranged hierarchically from "Observed - O”, the lowest category, to the highest, "Nest of species found containing young - NY.” For a breakdown of these codes and a short explanation of each, see Handbook for Participants, pages 34-35.

For any observation, more than one code may apply—choose the one that seems most appropriate; resist the temptation to select a higher breeding code just because your feel sure a species is breeding in a given block. Record only what you actually observe; when in doubt, choose the more conservative of two or more possible breeding codes. Preserving the accuracy of the 2nd PBBA data is of paramount importance.
