Daily Schedule

campActivities at the museums of art and natural history include a variety of discussions and demonstrations, hands-on exploration time using touchable materials, guided time in exhibition halls and galleries, projects, outdoor investigations, and art-making time. Activities may include special visits to the Discovery Room, Bonehunters Quarry, Carnegie Library, and Carnegie Museum of Art Theater as well as outdoor activities, behind-the-scenes tours, and guest appearances.

Activities at Powdermill Nature Reserve, the environmental research center of Carnegie Museum of Natural History, include a trip to the bird banding station, splashing in Powdermill Run stream, investigating ponds, and hiking through forests and meadows.

Sign-in & Sign-out

Parents/guardians are required to sign campers in and out each day.

  • Sign-in begins at 8:30 a.m. Earlier sign-in at the museums of art and natural history requires registration for pre-camp care. Pre-camp care is not available at Powdermill Nature Reserve.
  • Sign-out for half-day camps is at 11:30.
  • Sign-out for full-day camps is at 3 p.m. Later sign-out requires registration for post-camp care. Post-camp care is not available at Powdermill Nature Reserve.

Lunch

Parents/guardians are not permitted to sign out campers for lunch. Refrigeration of lunches is not available.

  • Carnegie Museums of Art and Natural History
    • Ages 4–5 attend half-day camps. No snack or lunch is provided.
    • Ages 6–13 attend full-day camps, with a half-hour lunch and half-hour recess. Children must provide their own lunches. Refrigeration is not available. No snack is provided.
    • Campers must bring a lunch from home. Campers may not be able to purchase food if the museum snack bar is crowded and children cannot be safely supervised. Access to vending machines is limited, and the museum is not responsible for money lost in the vending machines. Do not pack microwaveable foods.
  • Powdermill Nature Reserve
    • Pack a hearty lunch—the kids work hard all day! We encourage recycling, so recyclable or reusable containers are appreciated.
    • No snack is provided.
    • Weather permitting, children eat lunch outside on picnic tables, under shade trees, or on the grass lawn. Children have 15–20 minutes of recess after lunch.
