Birds
Discover
the wonderful world of our feathered friends. Meet various birds
from Pennsylvania, learn about their feeding and nesting habits,
and make a bird feeder.

Learn
about American Indian life right here in the museum. Explore native
traditions by making games and clothing. Learn how different American
Indian peoples communicate through writing and music.

Gross
or not, garbage is everywhere. Learn about composting, recycling,
and waste to investigate the impact of garbage on our planet.

All About
Geology
Through
the use of various activity kits, Scouts will learn about the
fascinating world of geology. This tour includes mineral testing,
rock identification, the study of earthquakes, and a trip to Bonehunters
Quarry.
Forester
Using
Museum exhibits, Scouts will take a trip through Pennsylvania
forests, an African rainforest, and forests of America’s
Northwest Coast as they learn to identify trees and plants common
to these areas. Scouts will create a poster illustrating tree
growth rings and more.
Pennsylvania
Naturalist
By visiting museum exhibits, examining touchable objects,
completing an activity sheet, and pinning a grasshopper, Scouts
will learn about the habitats, adaptations, and behaviors of Pennsylvania
wildlife.
Boy Scouts
4½-hour
Workshop
Participants will satisfy most badge requirements.
$15 per participant. One adult for every five Scouts admitted free;
additional adults pay $10.

The day’s events include Scouts-only activities with an emphasis
on Dinosaurs in Their Time and The Scoop on Poop!
Activities fulfill some component of badge requirements and are
for uniformed Scouts only. Please note: merit badge
workshops will not be available on this day. In addition
to all of the Scout activities, the entire museum is at your fingertips!
Fee
$10 per participant—includes museum admission, activities,
and an embroidered patch for Scouts.

to your schedule, fulfill most Try-It requirements, and supply the

Me and
My Shadow
Peer
into the incredible world of the shadow. Match shadows with some
of our favorite creatures and create a shadow box!
Eco-Explorer
Become
an eco-explorer right here in the museum! Learn all about habitats,
food chains, and animal extinction.
Plants
What
gives us oxygen, medicine, food, paper, and more? Plants! In this
class, you’ll discover the many things that plants have
to offer.
Watching
Wildlife
Animals
do some pretty amazing things such as change colors, build homes,
and shop for food. Study these astonishing activities right
here in the museum!

Jeweler
Through
a tour of our exhibits, touchable objects, and an activity sheet,
Scouts will discover the jewelry and customs of other cultures.
This tour includes making a beaded Maasai-style necklace.
Earth Connections
By
visiting museum exhibits and examining touchable objects, Scouts
will learn about the habitats, adaptations, and behaviors of Pennsylvania
wildlife. This tour includes leaf identification and tree ring
activities.
Rocks Rock
Through
the use of various activity kits, Scouts will learn about the
fascinating world of rocks, minerals, and geology. This tour includes
rock identification, the study of earthquakes, and an investigation
of fossils you might find in Western Pennsylvania. You’ll
also make a cast of the Pennsylvania state fossil, Phacops
rana.
Wildlife
Using
a variety of museum exhibits, touchables, and activities, Scouts
will investigate animal adaptations, plant and animal classification,
begin their own field guide, and much more!
Overnights
$35
per participant—Theme-based Overnight programs include activities,

Cadette
