Science on Stage

Scheduling and Information

For scheduling and information, contact Michael List at (412) 622-3282 or ListM@CarnegieMNH.org at least six weeks in advance.

The maximum number of students per program is 200. Up to four 40-minute programs can be scheduled per day. Primary and intermediate programs can be scheduled on the same day.

Carnegie Museum of Natural History presents touring productions for school assemblies. A variety of natural history topics are addressed in these educational and entertaining programs for elementary and middle schools.

Fee
$300 for first program; $115 for each additional program on the same day.

Science on Stage is a participant of the Shop 'n Save S.E.E.D. program. For more information on this program and how it may cover visit fees, contact Michael List at (412) 622-3282.

Space and Time Requirements
A 15' x 25' presentation space for the set and two 110-volt electrical outlets are required.

The set must be assembled one hour before the first performance. A half-hour is required to take down the set after the last performance.


Dinosaurs!
Grades K–2
In this assembly program at your school, children join Professor Maxwell and assistant Sidney as they explore dinosaurs. Using audience participation and an array of props, games, and visuals, the Professor answers Sidney's questions: How do we know about dinosaurs? When did they live? What did they eat? What did they look like? In this fast-paced, fun-filled presentation, Sidney and your students learn much about dinosaurs.

The Enchanted Forest
Grades K–2
When Jack, of Beanstalk fame, wanders into a forest looking for something new to chop down, he encounters a world filled with creatures of all kinds. There he learns how a wide variety of animals and plants keep our environment healthy and strong. In this imaginative play, using a fairy-tale-like setting and loaded with audience participation, we will introduce your students to the basic concepts of biodiversity, giving them access to this most important and timely topic.

It's a Bird, It's a Plane…It's a Bug?!

Join our brave bug as it travels through the fascinating world of insects searching for its own super heroic power. Along the way, you'll meet and learn about the most diverse group of animals on the earth - BUGS!

Through the Woodland Looking Glass
Grades K–2
When young Al (Alice) has a report for school due on animals he/she ends up traveling to the wonderful world of animals. Come with Al (Alice) as he/she gets lost in a forest filled with magical talking animals. In this entertaining and informative take-off on the children's classic, Alice in Wonderland, students learn about the basic needs and unique characteristics of wildlife. This fun-filled show is full of imaginative costumes and audience participation.

Mysteries, Tales, and Truths
Grades K–5
Be enthralled as our storytellers enact tales from around the world and throughout time. We'll travel from China to South America and points in between, exploring how science and imagination weave together to create our understanding of the natural world. Engaging the natural instincts of a child's mind, we'll examine how myths and legends began with the one word all children and scientists love to ask - WHY? This lively show includes puppets and audience participation.

Mission: Biodiversity
Grades 3–5
Luckily, in the future, time travel is possible! A top-secret Eco-recovery agent from the year 2214 has traveled back to our own time. The mission: to recover specimens of crucial wildlife from Pennsylvania's once-thriving ecosystems in an effort to reclaim our region's biodiversity, which, sadly, in the future has been lost. In this playful, interactive format, our daring time traveler will take students through an exploration of key aspects of biodiversity, from its vital dependence on healthy ecosystems to the terrible consequences to all life when biodiversity is threatened.

Paleontology!

In our dinosaur show for intermediate grades, students are introduced to the exciting world of paleontology. Practical examples and engaging images give students a new perspective on the discoveries made by museum scientists, including the fieldwork, preparation, and research that go into each dinosaur find.

Treasure Hunt: Pirates of the Monongahela
Grades 3–5
Join our two pirates as they embark on a swashbuckling journey in search of gold and riches and end up discovering a true treasure-a wealth of geological knowledge. As our two pirates search through a bounty of rocks and minerals, students are treated to information and fun that teaches them about the types of rocks that make up the Earth and how they are formed, the layers of the Earth, and the importance of natural resources and fossils fuels.

BUG MANIA!!!!
Grades 3–8
In this interactive and entertaining series of sketches, we will introduce your students to the diverse world of insects. This program covers the life cycles of insects, their importance to the ecosystem, how they help and harm humans, and more. Through this program students will gain an understanding of the wonderful world of insects, and they will learn what makes the insect world the most diverse and largest animal group on the Earth.

Tropical Rainforest
Grades 6–8
This fast-paced, high-energy show transports students to the dynamic and fascinating Ecuadorian rainforest. Through video segments and fun interaction with their tour guide Sam, the audience explores a range of topics covering geography, ecology, and biodiversity of a tropical rainforest, as well as the importance of its conservation for future generations.

It's a Wonderful Biodiverse Life

Grades 6–8
Georgia Frailey's grades are dropping in school and her parents are trying to get her back on track. Georgia has had enough when an evening trip to the mall is squashed because of homework and grades. She just wishes everything about science and biodiversity would just go away. Her wish is granted when she has a surprise visitor who shows what her and everyone else's life would be like without this great variety. In this play, students will explore biodiversity and the dire consequences to us when biodiversity is threatened.
