Biodiversity

Our newest cart is the Biodiversity cart. It was established when the exhibit "Biodiversity 911" by the World Wildlife Fund came to Carnegie Museum of Natural History. On the cart visitors will find animal tracks, a snake shed, turkey feathers, and so much more. All of the items on the cart show the visitor the diversity of the planet and how important it is to save it.

Animal Tracks - Some of the many things you can see at the Biodiversity cart include animal tracks. Children are able to compare their feet and hands to the animals' feet and hands. The animal tracks below are (from the left) the porcupine's back foot and front foot, the deer's back foot and front foot, the beaver's back foot and front foot, and the raccoon's back foot and front foot.

Animal Skulls - Visitors can also see a variety of animal skulls on the Biodiversity cart. The skulls shown below are (from the left) a bobcat skull, a porcupine skull, a turkey skull, a rabbit skull, a fox skull, and a skunk skull. Also shown below are a snapping turtle skull and lower jaw, and an unknown mammal bone. Imagine what size brains these animals have.

Leaves - The Biodiversity cart also has leaf latex molds for visitors to look at and touch. Visitors can learn which trees the leaves come from and learn to identify the leaves based on their shape. One of the leaves pictured below is the Ginkgo, do you know which one it is? Visit the Biodiversity cart to find out.
