The Discovery Room enhances any museum visit! There are very few "Don't Touch" signs here. Touchable objects and exhibits make learning fun and science an exciting adventure.

Discovery Room materials include:
• Theme-based Discovery Boxes
• Microscopes
• Live invertebrate and vertebrate animals in aquariums
• Touchable vertebrate mounts and skeletons
• Touchable fossils and minerals
• A Pennsylvanian seasonal tree with animal residents
• American Indian, Ancient Egyptian, modern African, and other cultural artifacts

I'm sometimes called a "Mermaid's Purse." Come to the Discovery Room to learn more about me!

Regular Hours (September through June):
Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday: 1 - 3 PM *
Thursday: 1 - 7 PM *
Saturday: 10 AM - 4 PM
Sunday: 1 - 4 PM
*May also be available 10 a.m.- 1 p.m. when not in use by school groups pre-registered for the space.

Summer Hours (July and August):
Monday - Wednesday: 10 AM - 4 PM
Thursday: 10 AM - 8 PM
Friday - Saturday: 10 AM - 4 PM
Sunday: 1 to 4 PM

Family Museum Bags take the Discovery Room experience into the museum, adding interactive fun to selected exhibits. Museum maps are included.

• Bags may be checked out from the Discovery Room for one hour.
• Checkout times vary depending on Discovery Room hours of operation.
• Bags are especially recommended for repeat visitors.

For families with pre-school children
"Visit My Home" begins in the Polar World snowhouse and ends in the southwest pueblo. Simple puzzles, booklets, and touchable materials help young children understand cultural diversity.

For families with elementary-age children
• "Birds of a Feather" is a guide to Bird Hall and the amazing world of feathers.
• "Birds of the Night" explores the night shift in the avian world and the wonders of nocturnal birds.
