Teacher's Guide to The Walton Hall of Ancient Egypt
A comprehensive teacher's guide was produced by the Division of Education to supplement The Walton Hall of Ancient Egypt and is one of many resources available to teachers and students involved in an exploration of ancient Egypt.

In order to facilitate its use, the guide is reproduced here as one easily printable document. We hope this guide will enhance your study of ancient Egypt, and better prepare you for a trip to The Walton Hall of Ancient Egypt at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History. Depending on your printer and choice of font, the entire guide, which includes detailed background information, a bibliography, a glossary, and a list of classroom activities, should be 17-25 pages in length.

Tours
Tours of the hall can be arranged for children in grades three and up, with a maximum group size of 40. Three tours are available:

  • Life in Ancient Egypt (Grades 3-6)
Your students travel back in time several thousand years to visit a replica of a burial tomb, learn about a pharaoh's boat, and examine our hands on artifacts as we introduce them to life in ancient Egypt.
  • Life in Ancient Egypt (Grades 7-12)
Students explore the ancient Egyptians' religious beliefs, funerary religion, technology, and environment.
  • Comparison of Three Cultures: Hopi, Inuit, and Ancient Egyptian (Grades 5-12)
Students compare and contrast the tools, technology, and housing of these three cultures to see how each adapted to its challenging desert environment.

To reserve a tour, call the Group Visits Office at (412) 622-3289 at least three weeks in advance. The office is open Monday through Friday 7:30 am to 5:00 pm and Saturday from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. More information about tours offered by the museum can be found at the home page of the
Division of Education.
