Winter Lecture
Our winter lunch and lecture is scheduled for Saturday, March
8, 2008.
This year's lecture is entitled: Geology and French and Indian
War Campaigns in Western Pennsylvania. The lecture wil discuss
how geologic factors influenced the Braddock and Forbes campaigns
and Pontiac's rebellion in western Pennsylvania. This lecture
is in celebration of the 250th anniversary of Pittsburgh which
will be held during 2008. Our light lunch and social will begin
in the Invertebrate Paleontology Lab at noon with the lecture
starting at approximately 1 pm in the blue classroom.
Junior Paleontologist
for A Day
The Junior Paleontologist for a Day event will once again allow
aspiring paleontologists of all ages to prepare fossils and organize
their own fossil kits. We also plan to visit the museum's exhibits
using our new PAlS guide number 7, Geology Scavenger Hunt.
We are planning to hold this event on Saturday, May 17,
2008.
As in 2007, this event will be held within the Section of Invertebrate
Paleontology Lab and will begin at 10 am followed by the Geology
Scavenger Hunt from 11 - 12 noon.
Fall Field
Trip
Timing and location of the fall field trip will be discussed at
the lecture and its location will be announced during the early
summer. We hope to once again examine important geologic exposures
and fossil localities in Western Pennsylvania and perhaps look
at several French and Indian War sites and their geologic implications
based upon our PAlS guide Number 4, Geology and the
French and Indian War in Western Pennsylvania.
