Gates of the Rocky Mountains - The canyon cut by the Missouri River through the western flank of the Big Belt Mountains exhibits a thrust fault which has moved Precambrian rocks over the Carboniferous rocks of the Big Belt Mountains. (Lewis and Clark, 7/19/1805)
