Visiting the Collection

Scheduling a Visit tour

Carnegie Museum of Natural History policy stipulates that visitors are allowed in the collection only when a member of Mineral staff is present, and thus you must arrange visits in advance. Normal visiting hours are Monday–Friday, 7:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m. Please call 412.622.3391 or email WilsonM@carnegiemnh.org to schedule an appointment.

The mineral collection is available for examination or study, onsite or by loan, by qualified persons. Prior arrangements must be made by contacting Minerals staff. Click here for general policies regarding loans and use of the collection.

Minerals works with local schools and universities by giving tours in Hillman Hall of Minerals and Gems and behind the scenes.

Additional assistance is afforded advanced students for special projects such as the Science Olympiad. SteinerIn the photo at top right, Science Olympiad medalists Andrew Shannon & Vicki Sepich hone their skills of mineral identification under the tutelage of Marc Wilson.
