Tyrannosaurus rex

Tyrannosaurs rexTyrannosaurus rex is the world's best-known dinosaur. The type specimen of this giant predator was discovered in 1902 by American Museum of Natural History, and acquired by Carnegie Museum.

This skeleton was recovered from the Late Cretaceous Hell Creek Formation of eastern Montana. It was found in the middle of a thick sandstone interval. This sandstone formed in the channel of a large river that criss-crossed the Late Cretaceous coastal plain. Carnegie Museum's Triceratops specimen was recovered from this same formation, not far from the Tyrannosaurus site.
