Jim Burke is a staff photographer at the University of Pittsburgh. He accompanied Dale Mudge to the Belcher Islands to document her work as she retraced the steps of a 1938 expedition to the Belchers. Mudge's field notes mention one of the small victories of their trip:

"We trudged up to the town garage, trying to find a polar bear-shaped license plate for the museum. Guys were very helpful, said to try the dump, with the old trucks. As I was leaving I noticed old trucks in their field so I went to see them and there was a '03' polar bear license.

"Jim and helper from the garage removed it. Dwayne from the Co-op store said he would get one for me, even if he just ended up taking it off his truck . . . Apparently they are collector's items . . ."
