2nd Pennsylvania Breeding Bird Atlas

Scarlet Tanager pair, Mike LanzoneThe 2nd Pennsylvania Breeding Bird Atlas was the most extensive survey of the state’s nesting birds ever attempted. Begun in 2004, the five-year 2nd PBBA ended in 2008. The results of the atlas will be published in 2011.

Our Most Important Resource is You!
Even with strong institutional support, completing the 2nd PBBA depended on the participation of thousands of volunteers. From a single record of a robin nesting on your porch post, to a handful of observations of birds seen at a state park while on your family’s summer vacation, to a long list of nesting species you’ve compiled after having spent dozens of hours watching birds in various habitats throughout the 4,937 Atlas blocks across the state—every single record added value to the project.
