Distance Learning

Visit the museum without leaving your seat

West Virginia Teachers and Teachers in Fayette, Greene, and Washington Counties in Pennsylvania
Some funding from the Benedum Foundation remains to support free Distance Learning programming about fossils, dinosaurs, paleontology, and geology for classrooms throughout West Virginia and in Fayette, Greene, and Washington counties in Pennsylvania. For additional information about this opportunity, contact Sue McJunkin at 412.622.3235 or McJunkinS@carnegiemnh.org.

Interactive videoconferences between your location and the museum can introduce new topics, explore familiar topics at a deeper level, or even prepare groups for an upcoming trip. During these 45- to 60-minute programs, you can see, hear, and speak with museum staff in real time via a television monitor. The museum presenter is likewise able to see, hear, and speak with you. Each program listed below is visually rich with museum specimens. Exciting educational moments occur when close-up cameras are used to explore structures as familiar as a robin’s nest or as unusual as a tiger beetle’s compound eye.

All programs are aligned with state and national academic standards and may be modified to address your students’ specific questions, ongoing projects, related study units, and current events. Relevant pre-videoconference lesson materials are provided two weeks in advance of scheduled programs.

Fee
Single Session: $125, with discounts available for multiple programs
Meet the Scientist: $150

Programming is available for locations with IP- and ISDN-based videoconferencing systems. Recording of programs is prohibited.

These hour-long videoconferences create an opportunity for your group to interact with the men and women who conduct the scientific inquiry that is the key component of the museum’s mission.

Meet the Scientist videoconferences are presented on Tuesdays between 1 and 2 p.m. For information on scheduling and pricing, contact Sue McJunkin at 412.622.3235 or McJunkinS@carnegiemnh.org.
